Clubhouse: The Invite-Only Social Media Platform

Meet Clubhouse: the *highly* exclusive invite-only app that everyone is talking about. We’re here to tell you everything from what it is to how to join this audio-based club.

If you haven’t heard of it by now, Clubhouse is the new audio-only social media app designed to keep us connected. Although, it’s still currently only available to those who have been invited in. Luckily for us, we’ve got the invite. So, here’s everything you need to know.

What is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is a voice-chatting social media app where individuals can host and join different conversations. When opening the app, you’ll see a list of “rooms” that you can join, or you can create your own room. These rooms each have a different topic, often hosted by an expert or pioneer in the field.

This could be, for example, a footballer talking about sports, a musician playing their instruments, or even celebrities chatting. There are no videos, pictures and hardly any text in these rooms. Just audio. Think of it as like a live podcast, but you can’t save it. So, if you’re enjoying the conversation, don’t leave, because you won’t be able to play it back.

Who has access to Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is still in its private beta testing, so, to tell a long story short, not that many people yet. For a start, Clubhouse is only available on iOS (sorry Android users), so even the most famous VIPs aren’t getting in without an iPhone. Secondly, only people who are invited can have access. This brings us to our next point (you guessed it), celebrities.

For those of you that have heard about Clubhouse, you’ve probably heard it from a celebrity. The audio-only app gained notoriety after celebrities such as Drake, Jared Leto and even Oprah joined, and now has 10.1 million users according to an article by Tech News Writer Vajresh Balaji. The app has now expanded to include popular podcast hosts, social-media stars, influencers, philosophers, artists, musicians and many more.

How can I join the club?

As of now, the only way of getting in is by being invited by someone who is already a member. So, unless you’re friends with 21 Savage, you’ll have to be patient. If you are invited in, however, new members are allowed to invite one other person. After some time, you can earn up to 3 more invites to allocate to your friends, meaning you can invite a total of 4 people in.

For Android users, it may be your turn sooner than expected. The makers of Clubhouse have said that they’re already planning to start work on the Android version. Furthermore, they’ve said they’re adding more accessibility and localisation features so that people all over the world can experience Clubhouse.

What’s in it for me?

We think Clubhouse has some real potential due to one thing, it’s exclusivity. The ‘VIP’ feel that this app provides is what’s made it go viral, and, once you’re in, you’ll never want out. You’ll have access to all the celebrity chats and discussions to listen to, all from home.

The exclusivity that this app provides has already got thousands of people on the waiting list. The download rates have shot up to over 10 million compared to December’s 600,000, and Clubhouse are just getting started. With the addition of Android, this app has the potential to reach millions worldwide.

So, if you get invited in by a friend, know that you’re a part of some of the world’s most exclusive members. Plus, who doesn’t want to listen in on a chat with Elon Musk and Kanye West?
