Just when you thought January couldn’t get any worse – the Met-Office has issued a ‘Yellow Weather Warning’ for snow, ice and strong winds in the Greater Manchester area starting tomorrow! Duvet day anyone? So, if you don’t have to leave the house we suggest curling up on the sofa and escaping the cold with one of the following series – a whole new meaning to Netflix & Chill.

The Sinner – Netflix (94% score on Rotten Tomatoes)

The Sinner centres on Cora Tannetti, played by Jessica Biel. On the outside an ordinary Mother who one day commits a very public, and seemingly unprovoked violent murder whilst on a family trip to the beach. The story delves into Cora’s past and psyche to try to uncover what caused her to commit such a horrendous crime – for what seems like no reason at all. The Sinner is an 8-part series, currently available to binge watch on Netflix – but be warned, it’s not for the faint hearted.

End of the F**king World – Netflix (96 % score on Rotten Tomatoes)

This quirky show revolves around James, 17, who’s pretty sure that he’s a psychopath. He sparks up an unlikely friendship with the new girl at school, Alyssa, and the two embark on a road trip to find Alyssa’s real Dad. Originally aired on Channel 4 in October, the show has been raved about for its dark, comedic tone. In case the title didn’t give this away, EOTFW is chocked full of F-bombs and C-bombs, so be careful who you watch this with!

Big Little Lies – Sky Boxsets (92% score on Rotten Tomatoes)

Big Little Lies aired in 2017, so isn’t exactly new. But in case you’ve been living under a rock, the 7-part series is snapping up all the awards; most recently ‘Best Mini Series’ and ‘Best Actress in a Mini Series’ for Nicole Kidman at the Golden Globes. Big Little Lies is based on the book of the same title by Liane Moriarty. It tells the story of several families in the small town of Monterey, California, as they navigate school, marriage and friendship, who despite their idyllic lives are hiding a host of secrets. When a murder happens at a school function and neither the victim nor culprit revealed, the story delves into the lives of the residents of Monterey, in a town where everybody is a potential suspect. If you missed the show the first-time round on Sky Atlantic, you can catch up on Sky Boxsets right now. But you better clear your schedule, because you once you start you’ll want to binge the whole lot!

The Good Place – Netflix (Season 2, 100% score on Rotten tomatoes)

Starring Kristen Bell as Eleanor Shellstrop, the show’s premise is that after you die you either go to ‘The Good Place’ or ‘The Bad Place.’ Relieved and surprised to find herself in The Good Place, Eleanor quickly realises that she is there by mistake and attempts to become a better person and shed her old ways in order to stay. If the above are a little on the heavy side for January –  this light-hearted, glossy comedy is loads of fun and currently has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its second season. You can watch both series on Netflix now, also look out for Jameela Jamil too, (apparently she acts now).

Stranger Things – Netflix (94% score on Rotten Tomatoes)

OK, everybody and their Grandma has seen or at least heard of Stranger Things. Season 2 was released in October, and it didn’t fail to live up to the hype. The Sci-fi tale is gloriously 80s and centres around Joyce Byers, played by Golden Globe-winning actress Winona Ryder. It tells the story of a desperate search to find her missing son, Will. As Joyce and Will’s friends search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries and come up against supernatural forces. Along the way they meet Eleven, played by fan favourite and Emmy Award-winning, Millie Bobby Brown, a very unusual little girl. If you missed the series the first-time round, or you simply want to watch it again, seasons 1 & 2 are on Netflix now. We can’t recommend enough!

So, stock up on snacks, batten down the hatches and get ready to binge yourself through the bad weather! Is it wrong that we’re kind of hoping we get snowed in now? Enjoy 🙂
