Images and graphics have become a key element on social media, posting an image with text is an easy way to get yourself noticed and leave an impression on the timeline, but more often than not brands don’t scrutinise or assess the image they’re about to upload. A rubbish image can actually do more harm than good when it comes to your social accounts; it reflects poorly on your brand and can damage the online presence you are trying to build.
Followers always tend to scan read a new page, meaning they won’t necessarily be reading every single post; they are more likely to be flicking down your feed until they reach an image. An image is registered much more quickly and is more likely to resonate with a viewer. With this in mind, you don’t want poor images standing out on your page as they are the first thing that a new follower sees.
Be Bold With Your Colour
Take step out of your comfort zone and clash some prints, layer it onto a block coloured background and you’ve got an eye catching photo. You won’t get lost in the timeline with this trick, and you’re bound to leave an impression.
Ditch The Low Quality Images
Low quality images won’t cut it. It does more damage to your brand than good, making you look lazy and a bit out of the loop. If the photo blurred or the lighting is all wrong, fix it! Even worse if you’re using dated clip art images (some accounts really still do this) so make sure you hop out of the pre 2000’s and get to grips with amazing imagery; good resolution images only add to your brand so take advantage of it.
Play With The Exposure & Light
It’s always good to get to grips with basic photo editing, you can really spruce up an image to make it look much more vibrant and appealing. Before you push the photo onto social, have a play around with the light, contrast and colouring, you might stumble upon a masterpiece.
Background Is Everything
A creative background can tie your image together. Go for a white textured background to highlight your product or object, alternatively you can go for an out of focus coloured backdrop like this. Either way the background works submissively with the foreground to highlight your product and attract plenty of attention.
Choose A Neutral Palette
Another way to use colour to your advantage is to decide on a colour palette for your brand. We’ve used neutrals as an example, but the colour wheel is your oyster – choose anything you like. By sticking to a colour and varying through the shades, you give your brand and social pages a theme; themes are aesthetically pleasing for viewers, so many will appreciate your continuation of colour. What better way to look clean and sophisticated?
Use Texture In Your Image
Texture in your image adds dimension by contrasting surfaces against one another. Adding texture always makes for a good image when combined correctly, this image ties together lots of different foods and colours to create a fresh, vibrant and appealing image. This technique can be applied to any image or style so make it your own!
Use A View To Push Your Product
Using a view to promote and highlight your product is incredibly effective. Your object and the background, work together in unison by sharing the focal point of the image; a perfect complimentary combination.
Try Out Cool Angels & Close Ups
Close ups and angling is an obvious one if you’re wanting to showcase a specific product, always opt for a high quality camera to showcase this for you. A clean white background is always a good option to keep the focus on the close up.
Lay Out Your Objects Creatively
Get creative with your image, try laying it out in grid style your photos will look clean and well put together; it creates a concise and simple layout to display your products. However, you don’t have to restrict yourself to grid-style, get creative and try something different. There’s all sorts of angles and positioning compositions to go for.
